Fraunhofer Gesellschaft

Zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung

Fraunhofer FHR is one of the leading and largest European research institutes in the field of high frequency and radar technology. For its partners, the institute develops customized concepts, processes and systems for electromagnetic sensor technology from the microwave to the lower terahertz range. On the one hand, the processes and systems developed at Fraunhofer FHR serve to research new technologies and designs. On the other hand, the institute develops prototypes in cooperation with companies, public authorities and other public institutions to meet previously unsolved challenges. Particular attention is paid to

the maturity and suitability of the systems for series production, so that they can be transferred to a product in a timely manner together with a partner. Thanks to its interdisciplinary structure, the institute has the technical expertise to cover the entire value chain, from consulting and studies to the development and production of a pilot series. The technologies used range from classic waveguide-based systems to highly integrated silicon germanium chips with frequencies up to 300 GHz.

The capability of non-contact measurement and the penetration of materials open up many possibilities for the localization of objects and persons. In more and more application areas, Fraunhofer FHR's high-frequency sensors with their special capabilities are an affordable and attractive option due to the progress of miniaturization and digitalization.

Role in Project

FHK will work on the adaption of an existing Ka-band SAR sensor (FHR) for airborne measurements, development of real-time SAR processing with required resolution (algorithms and hardware), support of flight campaign, verification of processing algorithms and the analysis of measured data.
